Experience a day to tempt your taste buds. Meet the local New Zealand Food Producers, hear their stories, sample their products, and then come back to our kitchen and produce an impressive NZ flavoured gourmet lunch with our experienced Chef! You will also get to enjoy a glass of local Matakana wine to match.
Our day will cater for all levels of expertise and confidence, in one of New Zealand’s most beautiful food and wine destinations, just an hour north of Auckland. Our focus is on using the freshest seasonal produce and products available from our local producers. You will have a fun packed day meeting interesting Kiwi locals and learning through a hands-on experience. With a maximum of 8, the small class size will guarantee you get plenty of Chef's attention. Join us on what will be a fascinating journey of discovery - unique to New Zealand, - and experience a day of New Zealand food and fun which you will never forget. All lessons begin at 10am and finish by 4pm and cost $225.00. Minimum group size is 4, maximum 8. This cost includes; morning tea, all ingredients, cookery lesson, lunch, wine match, and a small goody bag to take back to the ship with you. Transport can be arranged from Auckland central and will be an additional charge. |
Preparing for the Day
We will meet at The Gourmet Within at 989c Matakana Road, at 10am sharp. Mark will briefly go through introductions and the NZ products and dishes of the day, over a coffee and morning tea.
From The Gourmet Within we will head across the road to the famous Matakana Village Farmer’s Market (Saturday only). There you will meet some of the local producers, learn about the provenance of the products we will be using and collect some of our ingredients. Wed/Thur/Fri we will have 2 local Food producers come to meet with us in our new purpose built kitchen or we will visit them onsite. This is weather dependent and the choice of producer will vary on the season.
Next it will be in to the kitchen – aprons on and getting started! During the next 3 hours Mark will do some demonstrating but the lesson will largely be about YOU – hands on – learning by preparing and cooking some well known delicious Kiwi style dishes. Mark will guide you as part of a small group (maximum 8), so everyone is included, to the extent you want to be involved.
When the dishes are cooked it will be time to sit down together and enjoy our combined efforts, either with a wine match or a wine tasting presented by a local winemaker.
The day will end by 4 pm and you will leave with plenty of new ideas, special memories, a selection of New Zealand recipes from your day, your Gourmet Within goodie bag and a taste of local Matakana Kiwi produce. This New Zealand food and wine experience will be one of the highlights of your trip!

- The programme for the day begins promptly at 10 am
- Wear comfortable shoes as you will be on your feet for much of the day.
